Here is an extract from the Douglas Community Magazine regarding our South Munster and Munster victory.

This was of David vs Goliath magnitude and I was honoured

to be on the team as goalkeeper.

this to me. We were heralded as the pride of Douglas.

In keeping with our strong tradition,

three teams were entered for competition - Juveniles, Juniors and Seniors.

The U-14's defeated Ashton 2-0 in

Round I. They then met Stiofáin Naofa,

last year's All-Ireland Semi-Finalists

and scored a fine 1-3 victory. They

then advanced to meet old rivals

Spiorad Naomh, Bishopstown in the

South Munster Area Final, where they

were most unfortunate to lose by the

only goal of the game.

The Senior team had initial success

with a 2-0 victory over Millstreet

Community School but then made their

exit to a strong De La Salle team,

4-1, in Waterford.

De la Salle were exacting revenge

for the earlier defeat of their Junior

team by the pride of Douglas this year

- the U-16 team - the eventual 1986

Champions of Munster. In a swashbuckling run of victories, they defeated

some of the best in Munster: De la

Salle 4-1, Waterpark 5-3, Spiorad

Naomh 2-0 and Stiofáin Naofa 1-0. South Munster Cup Win.

In their first ever appearance in a

Munster Final last month, they eventually overcame St. Clements of

Limerick 2-1 after extra time, to bring

a second Munster Soccer Title to the

school, the Senior Team having done

so in 1981. They now go on to join

the other three provincial finalists in

the All Ireland series, which this year

is being held in Cork. This should

ensure maximum support for the team,

especially if they reach the Final,

which will be played in Flower Lodge

on May 18.
