Mark O'Leary On the Corner

 When I played in duo with Jack DeJohnette, Jack would stop and turn on a dime and say "Mark, let's play some funky stuff!" The "funky stuff" were grooves that emanated straight out of On the Corner, Jack DeJohnette was in Miles band for On the Corner. During the shows I played with Tomasz Stanko and Billy Hart, and I had already played with Tomasz and knew him, the music would open up. Billy Hart was laying down these grooves and myself and Tomasz Stanko would look at each other and were in congruence, this is On the Corner man and this is the closest we're going to get to Miles. Billy Hart was also the drummer in Miles Davis band for On the Corner.

  Mark O'Leary Vince Clarke era Depeche Mode Mark O'Leary in his early career performed in one of the first Depeche Mode oriented Synth band called Voltaire, Depeche Mode were a major influence on Mark and on the band. Also his tune Supermodel is alluded to as Vince Clarke era Depeche Mode. His forthcoming album Liberty Kansas Sun has several songs redolent of Depeche Mode including Basildon Chap. Mark O'Leary Voltaire-Origins

 In my Synth pop band Voltaire, when we started, we actually played a few Human League riffs, right at the very beginning, so we started with those songs as we all knew them and then we started extemporizing and it sounded like Cabaret Voltaire, who were receiving a lot of airplay at the time on MTV, so during our tea break I mentioned to the lads, we should call the band Voltaire, because what we just played, sounded like them, they agreed and that is how we started.
